The media team at SWAN Ministries joined us for a 6-hour Beginner’s Photography Workshop in Orleans, and the transformation we witnessed was incredible.

Our goal was simple: take a group of eager beginners and give them the skills and confidence to create well-composed, well-exposed images. We started with the basics—the exposure triangle (ISO, aperture, shutter speed)—and made sure everyone understood how these three pillars work together.

But we didn’t stop there. The course format from our Beginner Course Package is designed for engagement:

  • Games to make retention fun
  • Challenging scenarios to test knowledge
  • Group and independent work to solidify concepts
  • Real-world practice in a new location for lighting and composition challenges

The media team were not just passive listeners—they were active problem-solvers. By the end of the day, they were handling their cameras with confidence, experimenting with settings, and discussing creative choices like seasoned photographers.

What stood out most was their enthusiasm. Even when a concept felt tricky, they leaned in, asked questions, and worked together. Our role was to meet that energy with resources, attention, and responsive guidance—and the results spoke for themselves the very next day at their church service.
